Our Story
At Express Yourself Café, we’re more than just a coffee shop—we’re a community hub with a rich history. Located in a charming CN rail caboose, our café opened its doors in late June 2024, but the story of our little caboose goes back much further. Built in April 3rd, 1967, at the Trenton Plant, the caboose has seen many years of history, from its days as a railcar to its move in 2007 to be displayed on Trenton’s main street. When the town decided in early 2024 that the caboose could become something more engaging for the community, we knew we had to bring it to life as a café.
Transforming the inside of the caboose was no small feat. We had to retrofit the space to fit our large espresso machine (fondly known as “Big Bertha”) and all the other equipment needed to run our small take-out café. It was a true labor of love, especially when we realized how heavy some of the original metal cabinets were, we pushed through.
With the beautiful Trenton Station pavilion right next door, we saw the perfect opportunity to create a welcoming space for the community. This inspired us to launch the Trenton Station Fresh & Local Market, which runs alongside the café every Sunday. We’ve even added a artisan craft market in July for 2025, with more fun and exciting events to come this 2025 season. Check out our line-up on our ‘Events’ page. We’re definitely excited about all the possibilities for Express Yourself Café and Trenton Station.
