🎬 Evening Express: Games, Music & Iconic Animated NFB Short Films
✨ Two Tuesday Nights of Nostalgia Under the Stars at Trenton Station!
Join us for a fun and cozy evening with cottage games, music and a film screening of classic National Film Board animated shorts at Trenton Station, hosted by Express Yourself Café! These free community fun & film nights are perfect for all ages. Play some fun family games, grab a pizza slice at Sam’s Pizza with your EYC ticket, bring a lawn chair, grab some popcorn and a drink at the cafe, and settle in for a heartwarming and hilarious slice of Canadian animation history.

🎞 Tuesday, August 5th (Total runtime: approx. ~67 min)
- Street Musique (1972) – 8 min
- A playful, music-driven animation where street performers’ tunes bring colorful drawings to life in sync with the rhythm.
- Every Child (1979) – 6 min
- A heartwarming story about a baby who is rejected by various households until two loving people finally take the child in — emphasizing every child’s right to a home.
- The Big Snit (1985) – 10 min
- A quirky, darkly funny tale of a couple’s petty domestic dispute that unfolds during the onset of a nuclear apocalypse.
- What On Earth (1966) – 9 min
- A satirical mockumentary where Martians mistakenly believe automobiles — not humans — are the dominant lifeform on Earth.
- The Cat Came Back (1988) – 7 min
- A hilarious and chaotic series of attempts by a man to get rid of a pesky yellow cat that always returns, no matter what.
- The Sweater (1980) – 10 min
- A nostalgic recounting of a young boy’s devotion to the Montreal Canadiens — and the horror of receiving a Toronto Maple Leafs sweater by mistake.

- A whimsical behind-the-scenes look at animation, blending stop-motion and hand-drawn styles to explore the creative spirit of animators at work

- A surreal, musical interpretation of a French-Canadian folk song that creatively multiplies and morphs a blackbird in sync with the music.
- Strings (1991) – 10 min
- A tender and poetic animation that explores the emotional complexities of relationships through people connected by music
- The Sandcastle (1977) – 13 min
- A hauntingly beautiful stop-motion tale of a sand creature who brings quirky clay creatures to life in a windswept desert world — a meditation on creation, impermanence, and nature’s rhythms.
- Black Fly (1991) – 5 min
- A hilarious and fast-paced musical animation about the unrelenting torment of black flies in Northern Canada, based on Wade Hemsworth’s classic song.

- A mythical and atmospheric tale where nature spirits battle over the fate of summer, drawn from Indigenous legends and strikingly animated.
- When The Day Breaks (1999) – 9 Min
- A poignant story about how a chance encounter and sudden tragedy ripple through the quiet lives of anthropomorphic animal characters.

🕰 Evening Schedule (Both Nights):
- Café reopens at 7:00 PM
- (Pre-Show Events) 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
- Inquire at concession window for an ‘Evening Express: Pizza Special’ ticket to be redeemed at Sam’s Pizza (Trenton).
- Popcorn, drinks, and treats will be available at the Café for purchase
- Fun Cottage Games for fun family play. Games include: Spyder Ball, Funnel Ball, Yard Pong, and Toss Accross (Made available for FREE through Trenton Parks & Recreations “Go Play – Pictou County Equipment Loan Program”)
- Try your hand at Disc Golf Putting at our EYC Disc Golf Net
- Enjoy Live Music by local Musician, Cory Mercer – and if you like what you hear, feel free to tip and show your support!
- Seating begins at 8:00 PM – remember to bring your own lawn chairs and blankets for comfort
- Films start at dusk (approx. 8:30–8:40 PM)
